Henry Paulson and Goldman Sachs:

Scattered from California to New York: The judgments from the Department of Labor, tax liens against 401-K plans, state tax liens, mechanics lien, judgments from other companies

Henry Paulson, 5 weeks before he became Treasury Secretary, got a FANNIE MAE/FREDDIE MAC 30 year fix mortgage/loan for his 82 year old mother in May 2005 for 5.37%, (below rate)

Cheers.

The Miliband quote was also interesting because it was a lie, Miliband never said what Cameron claimed he had.

Basically Cameron had taken Milibands script and not watched the speech, where Miliband actually deviated from what script.

Thus when Cameron said 'I heard...' it was an outright lie.

Hi. Nice post. It's good to see Cameron floundering as he is finally made to get to grips with substance.

We got a hint of it at the conference when, in a speech criticizing Miliband for implying there was no such thing as society, he still felt obliged to put in a favourable Thatcher reference.

Moments like these expose the necessary duplicity of posing as a modernising leader in a party that won't reform.

When it comes to issues he simply lacks authority.

That's a very interesting quote, I suppose it's a bit old for Labour to use against Cameron but it's very revealing.

Poor old Quentin Davies. Supposedly he was a bit shunned at the recent conference. Got his reward with a junior ministerial post though, he might as well make the most of it as I don't know if he won't get voted out whatever happens in 2010.

I think they get up to this tactic a lot . One of the advantages of being in opposition is that your actions consist of issuing press releases rather than producing legislation - so you can produce proposals much more quickly than the government, as there are no immediate consequences of a lack of detail.

It’s like the David Freud proposals for welfare reform: government commissions him to produce report; he does so; govt says ‘thanks, we’ll read that very carefully’; Tories flick through it and say ‘yeah, we’ll pretty much do that, give or take A, B and C’; some time later, govt says ‘right, on consideration we’ll pretty much do that, give or take X, Y and Z’; Tories say ‘you nicked out ideas – we’re leading the debate!’

Or consider one of Quentin Daveis’s complaints to Cameron when he <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1555646/In-full-Davies-and-Cameron-exchange-letters.html" rel="nofollow">defected</a>:

<i>"One day in January, I think a Wednesday or Thursday, you and George Osborne discovered that Gordon Brown was to make a speech on the environment the following Monday. You wished to pre-empt him. So without any consultation with anyone - experts, think-tanks, the industry, even the Shadow Cabinet - you announced an airline or flight tax"</i>

[...] “This might be clever politics and to a degree expected, but it’s quite a damning indictment on the emptiness and clueless nature of the Conservatives that during one of the biggest banking crises we’ve ever seen they’re so stuck for a clue they have to hop on the coat-tails of the government while simultaneously blaming them for everything.” Read the full article.
